Soap Changes

When going into this project I was clueless on where I wanted to begin and start and as I kept trying to make changes more and more ideas came about. 

1. Cut legs off of soap 

 2. Put soap in a candle to see what would happen.

3. Let the wax cover the entire animal.

4. Wash soap off and see what the shape becomes.

5. Use lighter to add shape to object.

6.Cut shape in half 

7. Burned first shape with lighter 

8. Add red paint to second shape

9. Add third shape.

10. Burn object with red paint 

11. Add nail polish to third object when burning object caught on fire.

12. Add hairspray to hold objects.

Used balsa wood and pins to keep soap to the base.

Relief projects

The time periods that I studied were art Nuevo and Art Deco. When exploring this project I really looked into the different designs and shapes which were shown. My favorite part of this project the balsa wood door and columns, and also the different string work with the foam core and through the wood. I really enjoyed working with the different materials and using the wood shop to explore more ways to create lines, angles and designs within the wood and foam core. 

Inventory/ the tokens

When reading the handout I was shown ways in which meaning and representation can be portrayed through different things and in different ways. In one way we are shown this is with the certain tokens and how they can be matched to ones importance. Without knowing if the mother of the child was ever going to return the child would eventually be given this and it would have extreme meaning to that child. Many people have different feelings and views when it comes to how they feel about adoption, some want to know their parents and others believe that their adopted parents are there true parents, but a lot of the time people become curious and want to know who their true parents are. Having this type of token could change someones life when it came to finding their true parents. With the hospital saving different tokens and trinkets for each of the children there I strongly feel that they had a hope for each of the children and wanted to believe that one day these would come back to help them in the future.

The longing

The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale.
- using the body as a way of determining size and proportion can help in a way of not having to use tools. One can use the body to experiment and fine different ways to explore art and elements within it.

Capacity of objects to serve as traces of authentic experience.
-The amount of space within that object can only hold so much so say the object is your memory which can only remember so much at a time which can create an experience that is authentic and real experience.

The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental, and the three dimensional into the minute that can be enveloped by the body.
-a souvenir can help remember a small detail or large detail without having to have the meaning showing. It can have different elements in which brings meaning to certain emotions and memories.

Nostalgia can not be sustained without loss.
-without loss the strength of missing something or remembering something is no where near as strong, wether it be a person place or thing you have to loose it I'm some way to create the strong feeling of nostalgia even if the loss is not from death.

To have a souvenir of the exotic is to posses both a specimen and a trophy.
-having something of strong value to you can feel like a trophy. Something that has strong meaning and relation can show the importance of what something means to you as a person and to a memory.

Paper Cutting

Home is where the heart is..
For this exploration of paper cutting I wanted to go in a different way and use the phrase "home is where the heart is". Inside of the window I put 5 different hearts to show the 5 people in my family. 

Beach Shadow Box

For this shadow box I wanted to explore different ways of attaching different layers and depth within the waves. 

Cheerleading Figure

For this figure I wanted to use something I could connect to something that is personal to my life. Cheerleading has always been something I am extremely passionate about so I wanted to explore the different lines.
